In the context of the Bosnian conflict, NATO was trying to stabilize the pacification of Bosnia and Herzegovina and to accompany the reconstruction of the country’s institutions. The consequent mission in such context, was called Joint Guard. In support of this mission, with the aim of enforcing the no-fly zone imposed by the United Nations on Bosnian airspace, Operation Deliberate Guard was activated, which took the place of the Decisive Edge op. Aircraft carriers and military aircraft continued to be used for the military protection of Bosnian airspace, also contributing to SFOR’s information and electronic support (RADAR). Starting in 1998, the intensity of SFOR’s action was reduced and, at the same time, Operation Deliberate Guard, also reduced in size, took the name of Operation Deliberate Forge, in action until November 2004.
