DECISIVE ENHANCEMENT

Clearing and monitoring the areas with the presence of mines and unexploded bombs

Peacekeeping

After the intense bombardments during the Yugoslav wars, NATO started a series of activities to clear and monitor the areas with the presence of mines and unexploded bombs. Operation Decisive Enhancement provided for the clearance of the Adriatic Sea on the Bosnian side.

Operation “Decisive Enhancement” took place between December 2, 1995 and June 19, 1996, at the same time as “Sharp Guard” with the task of observing the access corridors to Croatian ports and clearing water from mines. Italy participated in the mission with the Gaeta Numana and Crotone Class minesweepers and with the Breguet Atlantic patrol aircraft and naval units that were engaged in the “Sharp Guard” mission, which were used to control merchant traffic and support the sea transport of men and equipment of the NATO-IFOR device.
