From December 21, 1995, to December 20, 1996, NATO air forces assigned to Operation “Deny Flight” to enforce the no-fly zone over Bosnia and Serbia, were transferred to support the implementation of the Dayton Peace Accords, resulting in Operation Decisive Endeavour.

The operation involved almost 5500 people from 12 NATO nations, operating from five European nations and aircraft carriers in the Mediterranean, carrying out over 50,000 sorties in support of the “Implementation Force” (IFOR), the largest military mission in NATO history.

The eight aircraft assigned to the operation were normally based in Provence, Greece or Trapani, Italy. During their deployment, they were also used to support the NATO operation “Sharp Guard”, which had the task of reinforcing the UN embargo against former Yugoslavia.

With the end of IFOR and the beginning of the “Stabilisation Force” (SFOR), the operation was terminated, and the air forces were transferred to the new operation “Deliberate Guard”.

During Operation Decisive Endeavour, NATO aircraft carried out over 50,000 sorties in support of IFOR.
